Florence Chen is a Delaware-based contemporary artist working primarily with paper, PLA, and mixed media.

Her work begins with the everyday: familiar subjects, ordinary moments, and things easily passed over. Beneath that familiarity, she explores contradiction, tension, and the meanings that emerge through sustained looking. Humor and discomfort coexist in the same frame, as do softness and structure, absence and presence.

Chen holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and previously held leadership roles in technology companies in Silicon Valley, California. That background continues to shape her artistic practice through a disciplined approach to structure, process, and the relationships between individual elements. Today, she applies that same analytical rigor to creating works that invite viewers to slow down, look closely, and discover new perspectives in the familiar.

In 2026, Chen presented In Plain Sight, a solo exhibition at The Delaware Contemporary in Wilmington, Delaware. In addition to her studio practice, she teaches paper quilling workshops in the community and serves on the Gallery Exhibitions and Membership Committees at the Newark Arts Alliance.
