Florence Chen is a Delaware-based contemporary artist working primarily with paper, PLA, and mixed media.

Her work begins with the everyday: familiar subjects, ordinary moments, things easily passed over. Underneath that familiarity, she finds contradiction, tension, and the kind of meaning that only surfaces when you stop and look twice. Humor and discomfort coexist in the same frame. So do softness and structure, absence and presence, the surface and what lies just beneath it.

Chen holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and previously held leadership roles in Silicon Valley technology companies. That background shapes her practice in ways that are hard to miss: the precision, the process, the deep interest in systems and how things relate. What changed is what she's pointing that rigor at.

Alongside her studio practice, she teaches paper quilling workshops throughout the region and serves on the Gallery Exhibitions and Membership Committees at the Newark Arts Alliance in Delaware.
